The product
The LUME Glide is a slim, precision-engineered card carrier built from micro-blasted aerospace-grade aluminium and full-grain Italian leather. It holds up to 8 cards plus folded notes, closes magnetically, and fits perfectly in any pocket. It is not a bifold. It is not a money clip. It is something new.
The Glide comfortably holds 4–8 cards depending on card thickness. Most people carry 4–6. The aluminium shell is rigid and the leather gusset has just enough flex to accommodate your exact load — so it never feels forced, and never falls loose.
Yes. The Glide is designed to carry folded notes behind or between your cards. We recommend folding to a third — it sits flat, opens cleanly, and doesn't add visible bulk. You won't carry a wad of cash, and you probably shouldn't.
The aluminium shell provides natural RFID attenuation — the metal body significantly reduces the read range of external scanners. It isn't marketed as a Faraday cage because we don't make claims we can't substantiate. What we can say is that the shell behaves like a metal enclosure around your cards, which is better than most wallets offer.
No. The magnet in the Glide's closure is sized and positioned to hold the case shut, not to interact with the RFID chips in your cards. Contactless payment and transit cards function normally. We tested this extensively during development.
The Glide is 86mm × 54mm × 6mm with 4–6 cards loaded — essentially the footprint of a credit card, just over 6mm thick. It weighs 42g. It disappears in a front pocket, sits flat in a jacket chest pocket, and doesn't print through trousers.
Materials
Walpier Buttero — a full-grain vegetable-tanned leather produced in Tuscany. It is the same leather used by small independent leatherworkers who make goods that last a lifetime. It is firm when new, develops a rich patina over time, and smells exactly like leather should. We chose it because nothing else behaves as well over years of use.
Walpier is a Florentine tannery whose Buttero leather is revered in the craft world for its consistency and longevity. Unlike chrome-tanned leather (used in most fashion goods), Buttero is vegetable-tanned — a slower, more traditional process that produces leather with more structure, better wear characteristics, and the ability to develop a proper patina rather than simply ageing badly.
Yes — and that's the point. Vegetable-tanned leather develops a patina unique to how you use it: the oils from your hands, exposure to light, the particular things you carry. After six months, it will look different from when you bought it. After two years, it will look better than any wallet you've ever owned. We consider this a feature, not a caveat.
The Glide shell is 6061-T6 aluminium, the same alloy used in precision aerospace and cycling components. It's light, corrosion-resistant, and machines beautifully. Titanium is stronger and lighter but significantly more expensive to machine, and the weight saving at this scale is imperceptible. We chose aluminium because it is the right material for this application — not for the story.
The aluminium needs nothing. Wipe it down occasionally. The leather benefits from a very light application of leather conditioner every six to twelve months — a pea-sized amount of Leather Honey or similar neutral conditioner. Avoid getting it soaking wet; if it does get wet, let it dry naturally away from heat. Do not use oils not designed for leather.
Carry & fit
Front trouser pocket is the most common. The slim profile means it doesn't print through fabric. It also works excellently in a jacket breast pocket, coat pocket, or bag. We specifically designed it to feel good in the hand — so wherever you put it, taking it out is a small pleasure rather than an inconvenience.
The micro-blasted finish means the exterior surface is matte and non-abrasive. It will not scratch a phone kept in the same pocket under normal use. The edges are chamfered (precisely bevelled) to prevent snagging. That said, any metal object carried against glass or polished metal will eventually cause micro-scratches — so we'd suggest keeping them in separate pockets out of habit.
Yes, though we'd recommend a front pocket for security reasons. Sitting on a rigid object repeatedly can stress the hinge mechanism over many years. The Glide is designed to last — help it along by giving it a front pocket.
Order & delivery
The first edition is launching soon. Waitlist members will receive priority access and early notification before the public sale opens. We are not releasing a specific date until we are confident the product meets our standard — which is the only standard that matters.
Yes. We plan to ship globally from launch. Import duties and taxes may apply depending on your country — these are the responsibility of the customer. We'll include full details at checkout so there are no surprises.
We offer a 30-day return window on unused products in original condition. If something isn't right, contact us and we'll make it right. We don't make the return process difficult — we want you to keep it because you love it, not because returning it is too much effort.
The LUME Glide carries a 2-year warranty against manufacturing defects. This covers the hinge mechanism, magnetic closure, and aluminium construction. Normal wear to the leather — scuffs, patina, and darkening — are features, not defects. If your Glide fails due to a fault on our end, we replace it. No argument.
Brand
LUME is a British brand. The Glide is designed in the UK. The leather comes from Italy. The aluminium is precision machined to our specification. We are not trying to be everything to everyone — we are trying to make one thing exceptionally well.
Yes — eventually. But we won't until the Glide is right and has found its audience. Brands that launch with ten products are spread too thin. We're focused. When we expand, it will be into objects that earn the LUME name. Watch this space.
